Sentinel Dome is especially notable for the Jeffrey pine at its summit. Born of an errant seedling over 400 years ago, a lone Jeffrey pine rooted itself in the inhospitable granite dome named “Sakkaduch” in the Southern Sierra Miwok language. Over time the summit winds formed its stunted twisted growth until it attained a height of over 12 feet.
