Although Conundrum Peak reaches 14,060 feet, it is considered a sub-peak of the taller, neighboring Capitol Peak and therefore not an "official" fourteener. Because of their proximity, the two peaks are often climbed together. The mountain was named after the creek of the same name located near Castle Peak. After finding traces of gold in the creek, prospector's searched upstream in vain to find the source, thus naming the creek after this perplexing problem.
