Granite Peak is the highest point of the state of Montana and is located in the Beartooth Range. It derives its name from the fact that the range is mostly made up of granite. Two approaches of varying difficulty join a steep and challenging climb near the summit. The area encompassing the Beartooth Range and the nearby Absaroka Range is the third most visited wilderness area in the United States.
