Snowmass Mountain is located in the Elk Mountains, west of Aspen and southwest of Snowmass Village. It ranks 34th highest of the Colorado 14ers. Its name is derived from the large snowfield that lies on its eastern slopes. Hiking by way of the Snowmass Creek approach is spring and fall requires an ice axe. Summer hikers will encounter talus and scree and the possibility of rock fall.
