North Sister is part of the Three Sisters volcanic peaks located in the Cascade Range in Oregon. Originally named “Faith, Hope and Charity”, the peaks are now known as North Sister, Middle Sister and South Sister. Of the three peaks, North Sister is the oldest in geologic age. Over time it has lost nearly one third of its height due to extensive erosion, causing rock fall; rock fall makes it the most dangerous of the three to climb. Because its last eruption occurred more than 100,000 years ago, it is considered to be an extinct volcano.
